Help with Unwanted Sexual Behavior

If your sexual behavior is problematic, compulsive or addictive –whatever you want to call it - our work together will help you stop the behaviors you need to stop, start the behaviors you need to start, and begin to heal from whatever drove you into the troubling behaviors in the first place.

We will actively keep in mind that sex is a good and natural part of the human experience. We are biologically meant to emotionally connect and be intimate with others.

When the process of connection and intimacy is not nurtured properly growing up or in the present, we are left with dysfunctional ways of relating sexually and emotionally with others. To put it simply, people suffering from sexual compulsion struggle to get their emotional needs met in healthy ways. They become dependent on sex to cope with emotional duress.

The troublesome sexual behavior is not about too much sex. The behavior is about “numbing out” and escaping from stress and other forms of emotional discomfort, such as depression, anxiety, low self-esteem, purposelessness, the pain of unresolved early-life trauma and the like.

To be clear, sexual behaviors are considered to be a problem when they go against your values, are dishonest, harmful to others, put you at risk, or reduce joy from your life.

Help and healing is possible from your unwanted sexual behavior. We will work together to help you find your way to wholeness and integrity in your relationships, so that you can live a better life.

It would be good to meet and talk with you about this. Please connect with me by going to the contact page listed above.

Please note that I must report any suspicion of abuse or neglect of a child or an elderly adult. If any of your sexual behavior involves minors (under 18) it is beyond the scope of my practice to provide such assistance. You need to connect with a qualified professional in this area. Clinicians with this training are known as Sexual Offending Treatment Providers (SOTP). If any of your behaviors have put you in legal trouble or have potential for legal trouble I recommend you contact an attorney in addition to a SOTP.
